Female chorus:
Once upon a time, a story was told
about officers, kidnappings and witches of old.
They haunted the stations and houses and dells
and this is the legend the police records tell:
Oh, don't you remember thirty-three years ago?
When that police lady and young boy whose names I don’t know
(actually I do, but it had to rhyme somehow!)
They wandered away on a cold winters day
and were lost in a wood,
I've heard people say.

It January 21st 1982 in Las Vegas and Police Chief Jeffrey Pool was on the phone with officer Jerry Clive.

"Chief, this is Jerry here. We have located the rapist. He's reading down highway seven going 98 miles per hours! Over!"

"Alright Jerry. You and Wendy meet the rest of us to form a roadblock at the 24 Scheckington Blvd. Maybe we can nab him."

"Actually sir..." Jerry said nervously. "Wendy's not with me anymore."

"What, where is she?" Chief Pool asked surprised. "Oh no..." he said. He knew where she was: chasing the criminal!

Wendy Cook was the new member of the Vegas Police Force. She was an attractive 32 year-old hot blooded blonde haired action girl that any criminals want to get arrested by (or try to take on). She was one of the best members of the team, but unfortunately she had a fatal flaw: Wendy thought she was absolutely perfect and never wanted help or backup when doing assignments. She didn't know the importance of working together. This worried Chief Pool very much...

“Officer Wendy Cook here." Wendy said answering Pool's contact.

"Wendy, this is Chief Pool here. Stop pursuing the rapist and meet the rest of us at 24 Sheckington Blvd! We can catch him there with a roadblock! Over!"

“Sir, let me handle him!” Wendy cried. “I have another idea! Over ”

“Wendy no, the safest course of action will be the roadblock. Over.”

“Sir, trust me! I’m gonna do this and show you I don’t need help! over and out!” and hung up.

Wendy took her gun out and aimed it at the criminals vans wheels. CArefully holding the wheel, they aimed and shot the tires sending the truck off the road and crashing it into a ditch. Wendy pulled over hoped out and went the rapist

“Hands up Jack!” she yelled. “We got you this time!”

Jack put his hands over his head and Wendy cuffed him. She grinned as she led the suspect to her patrol car. "Pool’s gonna love me forever!”

Back at the station...he didn't react as she planned.

“HOW DARE YOU DELIBERATELY DISOBEY AN ORDER!” Chief Pool screamed.

“Sir, I caught him didn’t I?” Wendy asked surprised.

“His truck could have crashed into somebody’s car...or cars...and injured a bunch of innocent people! Not to mention he could have died...and had a victim in his car that could have been hurt!”

“But there wasn’t!” Wendy protested.

“You were lucky Wendy.” Chief Pool said. “You won’t always be in situations like that.”

“I...I’m really sorry sir.” WEndy said.

"Wendy, I understand you are capable." Chief Pool said. "In fact, I'm happy they're now letting ladies be cops...however, that does not mean you can do EVERYTHING alone. And that applies to male cops as well. Sometimes, you need to work TOGETHER to get thing done."

"Sir, I'm smarter than every male cop in the Vegas Police Force!" Wendy snapped. "Even Alice could learn some things if ya asked me."

"Hey!" Alice, the only other femaeEverytime I drag those stooges around, I end up doing everything and they get credit they do not deserve! I'm brave sir! I can do it alone!"

“Wendy....being a cop isn’t always about notirity.” Chief Pool said. “It’s about saving people in need. And bravery doesn’t mean doing something reckless to stop criminals! Being brave means doing the right things even when it comes with a cost, not just your life but...something else you care about...and if I let you work alone all of the time, you would be in a situation where you can’t handle it alone and need help!”

“Sir, I’m not a little kid!” Wendy cried.

“Maybe not techincally, you are in your choices and attitude!” the chief said. “Wendy, I’m sorry, but until you learn what it really means to be a cop, you’re the dispatcher and perhaps going to question people. Then when you prove to me you understand the value of team work, I’ll let you back on. And don’t argue either, or I'll take your badge away.”

Wendy was distraught. It was totally unfair that she was in trouble for not stopping a criminal exactly how the chief wanted..to her at least.

It seemed like Wendy would never learn the value of team work...until she met a boy who had a case that would change her life...

That boy was Gregory McCoy. Age nine, he lived with his kindhearted parents in a well to do neighborhood which they had built themselves. They were land developers you see, among the most popular in town. They had built many of the cities many attractions, including the History Museum, the art museum, the play house, and even the police station Wendy worked at. That night, they were telling Gregory all about their latest plan.

"You know how you're always complaining about however we go to a baseball game, we have to park so far away and walk for several minutes?" Gregory's mother asked.

"Yes." said Gregory.

"Well son, ya won't have to complain any longer!" his father said. "Because your mother and I are going to buy that forest near the stadium  Winster Wood, and build a parking lot there! It's gonna make us rich!"

"So...ya think you could buy me a VCR now?" Gregory asked.

“If you bring up that D- you have in English right now, we'll strongly consider it." his mother said.

“Deal! I’ll get on my book report right now!”

Now he’s motivated.” Gregory’s mom said smiling.

Gregory headed upstairs to his room, got out his book “The Winds in the Willows” and started writing.

“Mr Toad is sentenced to twenty years in jail for stealing the motor car. While sobbing over...”

Then he heard his mother scream from downstairs.

“Mom?!” he cried.

“Son help!” his father added. All of a sudden, there was an old woman cackle and a smash of glass...and then silence.

Gregory bolted downstairs and saw that the kitchen window was smashed and his parents were nowhere to be found.

“MOM?! DAD?! Where are you?!” he called. No answer. He could hear the cackle faintly outside and saw his dad’s watch on the ground. He then bolted for a telephone.

Meanwhile, at the police station Wendy was NOT happy about her temporary demotion to dispatcher.

“He can’t fucking do this to me!” she said to the dispatcher Steve.

“Wendy, you could have injured people with that stunt you pulled!” Steve said. “He’s just trying to do his duty.”

“He’s sexist!” Wendy pouted. “I can handle ANYTHING on my own! I know every martial art, can handle a pistol better than anybody here, and am scary!”

"Wendy, don't complain just cause you don't like the consequences of disobeying the chiefs orders." said Steve. “Go complain when you get home.”

"But I don't have anybody at home to complain to!" said Wendy.

"Exactly." said Steve.

Just then, the phone rang.

“Las Vegas police department.” Wendy answered.

“Hello police?” It was Gregory. “My name is Gregory McCoy.”

“Yes, Gregory how can I help you?” Wendy asked.

“I....think my parents have been kidnapped!” he cried.

Wendy's bored look immeduately evaporated. "Hold on a sec son."

She turned to Steve grinning

"What's the situation Wendy?" Steve asked.

"Caller says it's a kidnapping." Wendy said. "Go tell Pool."

Steve nodded excited and left. They hadn't had a kidnapping case in a while! Those were so much fun to solve!

"Alright son, could you please tell me more about this?" Wendy asked Gregory.

“I was upstairs doing my book report for school, when I heard my mother scream and my dad call “HELP!” and there was this cackle...it was...so intense...and then I heard a crash...I ran downstairs and when I came down, my parents were gone and the window was smashed! And I...I could still hear the laugh from outside!"

“Alright, alright, stay calm Gregory." Wendy said. "Tell me when this happened."

“Just a few minutes ago!” Gregory cried.

“Were your parents injured in the kidnapping?” Wendy asked. "I mean did the kidnapper knock them out or cause any first degree burns?"

“I didn't see it ma'am!” Gregory cried. “I was upstairs writing my book report, when I heard the scream and laugh. They were gone without a trace when I got down!"

"Was there anybody else in the house before you went upstairs for your book report?" Wendy asked. "Any neighbors or relatives? Or siblings?"

"No ma'am, it was just me and my parents." Gregory said. "And I'm an only child."

"So it was just you and your parents right?" Wendy asked.

"Correct."

"And before you heard your parents call for help, did you by chance hear the person come in? Did you hear the door break down or any footsteps?"

"No ma'am. My parents screaming was the first thing I heard."

Wendy smiled. This was going to be a ton of fun to solve!

“And how old are you Gregory?” Wendy asked.

“Nine ma’am.” Gregory said. "I was wondering, should I go to a neighbors house?"

"No son. If you could still hear the kidnapper laughing in the distance after your parents went missing and this was only a minute ago, then they're probably still in the neighborhood. It wouldn't be safe for you to go out alone, especially in the dark."

"Then what should I do officer? I'm really scared!"

"Go somewhere with no windows, lock the door, and wait for us to come." Wendy said.

"But how will I know when you're here?" Gregory asked.

"When we arrive, we'll turn on our sirens. Listen for them while you're hiding, okay?"

"Yes officer." Gregory said. "I'm going now."

"Oh, one more things sweetie!" Wendy said. "Don't touch anything from the crime scene! It might contaminate the clues we need!"

"Yes officer." Gregory said. "And please hurry!"

"We'll be there as soon as possible." Wendy said and hung up.

Wendy got up.

Just then, Chief Pool approached her.

"So we got a kidnapping huh?" Pool asked her excited

"Sounds like it sir." she said. "Apparently some lady took this little boy's parents."

"Really?" Chief Pool asked surprised. "That's...an unusual case."

"I'll tell you more about it when I go pick up the boy from the house." Wendy replied.

“Wendy, you’re on phone duty now.” Chief pool said. “I’ll have Jerry on it.”

“Sir please!” Wendy said. “I’m just going to pick up the kid and examine the crime scene!"

"I am pretty tired from now sir." said Jerry. "Come on sir, she's not pursuing anybody."

Chief Pool sighed. “Fine. Go.”

Wendy then hopped in her police car and headed for the address.

When she arrived at the house, she turned her siren on to let Gregory know she was there. Gregory came out a few seconds later.

“Are you Gregory McCoy?” Wendy said.

Gregory nodded.

"Gregory, my name is Wendy Cook of the Las Vegas Police Department. Could you please show me the window that was smashed?"

“F..follow me.” Gregory said timidly.

He led Wendy to the kitchen and showed her the smashed Window.

“Oh Jesus...” she said when she saw it. She looked at it...she couldn't determine what had broken it..it was nothing she'd ever seen before!  She took a picture. Then she took Gregory's father's wristwatch and put it in an evidence bag.

“Are...are you gonna find my parents?” Gregory asked.

“We’re...we’re gonna do our best.” Wendy said. “But we’re going to take you down to station for questioning and to find a caretaker for you.”

“Yes ma’am.” Gregory said.

Wendy got her walkie talkie out.

“Chief Pool, this is Wendy here. We got a smashed window and a pocket watch on the floor. I cannot determine the means that smashed the window, you’re gonna have to send some forensic investigators here. Some good ones too! Also, I want some boys down here to cross tape this house up! There could be evidence! I’m gonna take the boy down to the station. Over and out.”

“See you there Wendy.” Chief Pool said.

“I bet you were pretty scared when you heard your parents call for help huh champ?” Wendy asked Gregory kindly as they headed for her car.

“I...I was horrified!” Gregory cried.

“Well don’t worry, we’re gonna have detectives search the area as soon as possible.” Wendy said.

Gregory smiled.

They then arrived at the station and Wendy and Gregory both headed for the chief.

“Hey Wendy, is this the boy who called?” Chief Pool said.

“That’s right sir. This is Gregory McCoy.” Wendy said.

“Hello son.” Chief Pool said kindly.

“Hello sir.” Gregory said.

“So we understand it’s a possible kidnapping is that correct?” Chief Pool asked.

Gregory nodded.

“Well, we are going to get into the case first thing tomorrow.” Chief Pool said. “We’re about to close for the night, but I'm sending our Forensic department there right away and tomorrow we’re going to ask some questions, okay son?”

“What's Forensics?" Gregory asked.

“It's like...police science.” Wendy said. “They examine evidence scientifically and try to determine if it is useful or not. And tomorrow, I’m gonna start looking...”

“Oh no Wendy!” Chief Pool said. “You’re not to have anything to do with this case! You’re still dispatcher until you’ve redeemed yourself. I’m putting Brodie and Miller on it!”

“Those two?!” Wendy cried. “The only case they ever solved was the case of the kids sneaking into theaters without paying!”

“But they know the importance of working as a team.” Chief Pool said sternly. “And that is final. Now what shall we do with the boy?”

“Do you have any relatives who live near here?” Wendy asked.

“N...no ma’am.” Gregory said. “My closest one lives in Texas.”

“Do you have any neighbors you know well who can watch you?” Steve asked.

“I’m not sure that’s a good idea Steve.” Chief Pool said. “The kidnapper could still be in the neighborhood and if they took his parents, they might try to take him also. I’m not sure he’d be safe there. Speaking of which, we'd better issue a warning the neighborhood about what happened tonight and tell them to be on the look out. As for the boy, I think that the best course of action is to have an officer watch him. Any volunteers?”

“I...I’ll look after him sir.” Wendy volunteered.

“You...you really want to Wendy?” Chief Pool asked.

“Yes sir. I do.” Wendy replied.

“Very well.” Chief Pool said. “We’ll put him in your custody until we find his parents. Remember, if I catch you doing any investigating, you lose your badge! Got it?”

“Yes sir.” Wendy said frowning.

“Very good.” chief Pool said. ”Night Wendy."

“I’ll take him to my place now.” Wendy said. “Come on Gregory.”

Gregory followed Wendy to her car and they went home.

“Officer Cook...” Gregory started.

“You can call me Wendy Gregory.” she said smiling. “We’re friends.”

“Okay...Wendy.” Gregory said. “They’re gonna find my parents right?”

“We’ll do our best son.” Wendy said. “I’m going to get on this case though! I deserve it!”

"why...why can't you do any real police work now?" Gregory asked.

"Oh it's just cause he underestimates my abilities." Wendy said. "The chief doesn't wanna admit I'm better than the rest of them and don't need any backup. And also when I used my creativity to stop a criminal, he got mad for not following HIS orders and said I need to learn about working together...it's unfair huh?"

“I feel ya.” Gregory said. "My soccer coach got mad for not wanting to work as a team as well."

"Well teamwork IS for some..but it's NOT for me." WEndy said.

"Hey....I’ve never seen you in our area.” Gregory noticed.

“I’ve moved to this district a few months ago.” Wendy said. “My old one didn't have much crime and I was really bored with it. Lots of crime in Vegas.”

They arrived to her house a few minutes later. It was a nice green brick house with red white and blue striped curtains. Gregory noticed it was toilet papered.

‘Sorry about that.” Wendy said . “Some punks who I gave a speeding ticket did this. I’m going to talk to them tomorrow...er, Jerry is I mean.”

They entered the house. Gregory saw a bunch of awards and medals.

“How long have you been a cop anyway?” Gregory asked.

“Six years now.” Wendy said. “Earned my certificate in 1976.”

Gregory looked around and eyed a photo of a nice young couple and a blonde little girl.

"Are these your parents?" Gregory asked.

"They were." Wendy said sadly.

"Awww. I'm sorry." said Gregory. "Lost them recently?"

"No, I lost them as a kid..I think I was about your age. It was my birthday and just when my parents were cutting my cake, this shooter broke into our house. My parents testified against him in court and he blasted them with machine gun right in front of me! Oh that was the scariest day of my life! I then closed my eyes and waited for him to finish me off too...but he said he didn't have anything against me and left.."

"Did they catch him?" Gregory asked.

"I don't know." said Wendy. "I never heard anything about his capture in the news, but I bet he was eventually. Anyways, I decided that when I grew up, I'd be a police officer and stop people from doing this!"

"Just like Spiderman." said Gregory.

"Yeah, I figured since I didn't have radioactive spider powers, I'd become the next best thing."

"So, are you married Wendy?" Gregory asked.

"No. I'm just not a family woman." Wendy said. "Plus I just can't go through the loss I went through years ago."

“May I watch some television?” Gregory asked.

“Go ahead.” Wendy said. “I own that new movie E.T. You know, the one about the boy and the alien.”

“You have a VCR?!” Gregory cried. “Oh boy, I want one so badly! Then I can watch movies and stuff whenever I want!”

“Yeah.” Wendy said. “Have you already eaten?”

“Yeah, I did.” Gregory said.

“Okay, I’m going to go to bed now.” Wendy said. “Call me if you need anything.”

“Where do I sleep?” Gregory asked.

“Umm...is the coach okay? I don’t have a guest room.” Wendy said.

“Yeah, I guess.” Gregory said.

“Night sweetie.” Wendy said smiling.

“Night...Wendy.” Gregory said.

Wendy smiled. She really liked this boy. And wanted to help him out so much!

The next morning, Gregory and Wendy had breakfast together.

“I hope you like eggs.” Wendy said.

“I do.” Gregory said. “Umm..any news on...”

“No, not yet.” Wendy said. “But I'm sure we will soon. So when does your school start?”

“Eight.” Gregory said.

“Okay, I think I can drop you off.” Wendy said. “We need to leave soon, cause my shift starts at nine.”

“Righto.” Gregory said.

“Good boy.” Wendy said.

After dropping Gregory off at school, Wendy arrived at the station.

“Morning Wendy.” Chief Pool said. “Time to get to the desk.”

“Any progress with the kidnapping case?” she inquired.

"Not really." Chief Pool said glumly. "Our Forensic department says that they've searched the scene thoroughly, but can't find ANY genetic evidence there at all. As for what broke the window, they know it's not a bullet, a blunt object or a fist...they believe that it's some sort of...lightning type blow...but it's nothing they've ever seen before. They showed it to me, and I'VE never seen it!"

"Whoa, this must be a really smart criminal!" Wendy said.

"We've come to the conclusion that the crime scene doesn't have enough evidence to help us find the kidnapper." said Chief Pool. "As soon as Gregory finishes school, we'd like you bring him here for interrogation."

“Yes sir.” Wendy said.

The rest of the day was pretty boring for Wendy. No one called for help that day, and she watched while other officers got to go out searching for the criminal.

"Are you okay Wendy?" Chief Pool asked.

"I'm fine sir." Wendy said. "Just...a little bored I guess."

"As soon as you can tell me why it's important to work together sometimes, you can start helping search for the kidnapper." Chief Pool said.

"It's..just not an opinion I agree with sir." said Wendy.

"Well when change your mind tell me." said Chief Pool and left.

When it was three, Wendy went to fetch Gregory. When she arrived some bullies were bothering him for money. Wendy came out.

"Hey, it's the cops!" the bully said and ran.

"Thanks Wendy." Gregory said gratefully. "Any luck?"

"I'm afraid not. We need more evidence." said Wendy. "We'd like to ask you a couple questions so I'm gonna take you to the station now."

Upon arriving, Wendy led Gregory to an interrogation room. Chief Pool and a scary looking man with a scar were waiting.

“Gregory, take a seat there.” Chief Pool said. “We’re going to ask some questions.”

“Yes sir.” Gregory said and sat down

"Is this the suspect?" the scar faced man asked.

"No Pete, he's a witness." Chief Pool said and then turned to Gregory. "Gregory, this Pete our investigator. He's going ask you a series of questions that will hopefully help us get closer to locating your parents."

"I'll know if you're lying kid." Pete said. "I can see dishonesty in any persons eyes..."

"Pete, he's just a kid. Go easy on him." Chief Pool said.

"Are you telling us the entire truth about what happened the night of your parents disappearance?" Pete asked calmly but still terrifyingly.

"Yes sir." Gregory said calmly.

"Very good." said Pete “Do you know if your parents have or ever had any enemies in the past?”

“I...I don’t think so.” Gregory said.

“How did you find out they were missing precisely?” he asked.

“I...I was writing my book report around 8:20, when I heard my mommy scream and my daddy call for help. Then I heard this cackle...and I when I went downstairs...they were gone!”

“Strange....” Chief Pool said. “Were all the doors and windows locked that night?”

“I...think so.” Gregory said.

"And...you heard the window break AFTER your parents called for help? Correct?" Pete asked.

"Correct." replied Gregory.

"Well, since none of the doors or windows inthe house were forced or jimmied open according to the investigators and the glass was broken after the kidnapping...the kidnapper must have already been in the house BEFORE you went upstairs." said Chief Pool.

"But there was literally no indication that anybody was in the house already that night." Gregory said.

"Criminals are really sneaky now adays Gregory." said Chief Pool.

"And a hell lot smarter too." Jerry added pearing in the room

"Did the kidnappers laugh sound like a man or woman's?" Pete asked.

"A woman's." said Gregory. "And old ones."

"Jerry, bring in some recording we have of old lady criminals from the past." Chief Pool ordered.

"We...don't have any sir." said Jerry. "NEver had an old lady criminal before."

“Gregory, can you please imitate that cackle you heard?” Wendy asked. "Maybe one of us have heard it before."

Gregory tried to do so.

“Hey, I've heard a cackle like that before!” Steve cried.

“Where?!” Chief Pool asked.

“In Winster wood.” he said. I was driving home one night a few weeks ago, passing by the forest, when I could faintly hear a cackle that sounded just like that."

“Did you say Winster Wood?” Gregory asked surprised.

“Yes...why?” Chief Pool said.

“My...my parents are planning to buy that forest.” Gregory said.

“Buy it?” Wendy asked.

“Yes. They’re land developers. They want to tear it down and build a new parking lot for the baseball stadium.”

“Maybe whoever kidnapped them did it to stop them from tearing down that forest!” Jerry suggested.

"Sounds like a logical theory to me." said Chief Pool. "Alrighty, I'm sending a group into the forest now. You’re in charge Miller.”

“Yes sir!” Miller cried

“Wendy, take Gregory home.” Pool ordered.

“Yes sir.” Wendy grumbled. She knew arguing would do her no good.

Pool could see that Wendy really wanted to go too and felt badly for her.

"Wendy wait!" Pool said. "Just tell me one reason why it's better to work as a team than alone in some cases, and I'll let you go too!"

"I got none." said Wendy. "Good night sir."

"Night Wendy." Pool sad disappointed.

"That Wendy gives us female cops a bad name." said Alice the only other female officer on the team.

"No she doesn't Alice." said Chief Pool. "She just overestimates herself too often. She's young too. She'll learn when she's older.

She and Gregory hopped in her car and took off.

Wendy was so mad! She deserved to be on this case! She wanted to show she was capable! She liked taking care of Gregory, but she so desperately wanted to catch the kidnapper... So...she pulled over and got out a walkie talkie.

“Chief Jeff Pool here. Over.” Pool said.

“Sir, it’s Wendy. I have news for you.” Wendy said. “Gregory and I heard the cackle just now. It was from an old lady driving a motorcycle down highway seven."

"Put Gregory on the phone." Chief Pool said not trusting her one bit.

She handed the walkie talkie and a hundred dollar bill to Gregory.

"She's telling the truth officer." Gregory said accepting the bribe.

"Alright, I'll tell the gang to change course and set up a roadblock down highway seven." said Chief Pool. "And I'm going to watch highway seven to make sure you don't go after her. You're losing your badge it I see you!"

“Yes sir! Wendy said smiling.

AFter hanging up, Wendy turned to Gregory.

“That’ll keep them distracted.” Wendy said.

"Distracted?" Gregory asked confused. "And why are you turning left? Your house is that way."

"We're not going to my house Gregory. We're going to Winster Wood to find your parents!"  “

“Huh?” Gregory said. “But Pool said...”

“I don't care about him!” Wendy cried. “He's been holding me back for far too long! I’m going to show that SOB that I can do anything on my own!”

"You're taking me with you to go after the kidnapper?" Gregory asked.

“Not when I arrest the kidnapper and rescue your parents!” Wendy said smiling.

“But I’m scared!” Gregory cried.

“You’ll be safe with me sweetie.” Wendy said. “No one tops Wendy Cook!”

They arrived at the woods and pulled in. Winster Wood was not a forest many people wanted to go into.  It was a really deep and dark and real easy to get lost in. Gregory wondered if his folks had also wanted to tear down the forest because it freaked them out."

They drove into the woods and headed down the trail.

Gregory saw the sun setting.

“Shouldn’t we be turning back Wendy?” he asked her. "This forest is not one you want to get lost in. Especially at night."

“We’re fine Gregory.” Wendy said.

After about 15 minutes, they suddenly stopped.

“what...what happened?” Gregory asked Wendy.

Wendy look at the fuel gauge. Empty.

“Oh shit...” she moaned. “I knew I had forgotten something!”

“where...where are we?” Gregory asked.

Wendy looked around. She didn’t know herself!

“We’re...” Wendy started.

“We’re lost aren’t we?” Gregory moaned.

“We...just...we don’t know our exact location....” Wendy started.

“Let’s call the chief for help!” Gregory suggested.

“Gregory, I am a cop.” Wendy said. “I know almost every martial art, I’m armed and am scary. No bad guy is gonna mess with us. Now follow me. I’ll get us out of here.”

Gregory followed Wendy and they walked around for a few minutes. The forest looked really scary now...

“This place gives me the willies.” Gregory said nervously.

“Don’t worry buddy, we’ll be out soon.” Wendy said.

Gregory then screamed. IT looked like there was a tree with eyes!

“What?! What’s wrong?!” Wendy cried.

“Look!” Gregory cried pointing. The eyes turned out to just be a butterfly.

“Gregory, there’s no such thing as...” Wendy started. All of a sudden, a bunch of little black birds flew out of a hollow stump right in their faces!

“Whoa!” Wendy cried. “That was startling wasn’t it?”

Gregory nodded.

"Gotta be trained for jump scares as a cop Gregory." said Wendy. "Now let's keep going."

They kept walking when Gregory screamed again.

“What?!” Wendy cried.

“Look!” Gregory cried pointing.

IT looked like a monster with giant eyes, orange teeth and two scythes for hands! But it turned out to be just an old dead tree and the scythe hands turned out to just be two thin crows and the eyes turned out to be a fat one whose orange talons were really the teeth.

“Gregory, please stop freaking out.” Wendy said. “There's no such things as monsters or magic. So start acting like a big boy and come on."

All of a sudden, the wind picked up. Wendy and Gregory pushed through with all their might and grabbed a tree.

"WEndy, this is too freaky." said Gregory. "Let's get out of here before something gets us.

Before Wendy could answer, they heard music.

“Do you hear that?” Gregory asked.

“Yeah...” Wendy said.

“It’s coming from there.” Gregory said pointing to a path that was blocked by some tree branches, but left just enough for a small person to get through.

“Hmmm...sounds like a college party.” Wendy said.

“Huh?” Gregory asked.

“Some college kids like to do bad things in places that are pretty secret, like the forest.” Wendy said. “I wanna go see if there’s any problems.”

Wendy then kicked the branches and cleared an opening. But it wasn’t a college party. It was a bunch of little bearded men with white beards and red pointy hats! They were all doing various things, like playing chess, riding on swings, going on seesaws or moving a pumpkin in a little cart pulled by a goose. They lived in house made of trees. They were singing some song about..working together. went like this...

“We are the happy gnomes in the wood
Playing something....in the hood: Together!
Look at all the work that we can get done!
Look at all the fun when we work as one: Together!
Living our lives the way that we please!
Under the sun, the clouds and the trees! Together!
Together!
We are the gnomes and here is our song!
And we’ll sing it all the day long! Together!
Now that you’re here with think that you should:
Join with the happy gnomes in the wood! TOgether!
I bet they’re all here for some kind of tourist attraction.”

"Nice song." Gregory said to Wendy.

Wendy did not think so at all. She looked like she was going to barf at its annoyance..and because it was about something she hated.

"I beg to difer." Wendy replied.

"I can't believe there are actual gnomes in this forest!" cried Gregory. "Maybe this forest isn't so worthless."

"Gregory, don't be silly." said Wendy. "Those aren't real gnomes! They're midgets in costumes! We must be at some kind of carnival...and I bet they were reheasring a song for a show...that needs serious work.

“In the woods?” Gregory asked.

“Carnies today like to avoid paying for building permits and business licenses and try to have them somewhere where we cops likely won’t notice. You know, I'd better go make sure they have permission to do it here...and make them stop singing that god awful song."

"What about my parents?" Gregory asked.

"It'll just take a second." Wendy said. "Come on.”

They climbed through the opening, and headed to them.

“Excuse me.” Wendy said to one of them.

“The “midget” turned around and gasped.

All the gnomes were frozen with fear!

"Humans!" one whispered to another. "How did they find us?!"

"I...I don't know!" the other said. "Just stay calm."

"How...how did you find us?" the gnome asked.

"We heard your music in the woods." Gregory said. "Nice attraction!"

"A...attraction?" the gnome asked.

"Yeah, for your carnival!" said Gregory. "IS this like a fantasy park?"

"Why of course!" the head gnome said quickly. "It's...fairy tale land! We're...rehearsing for our show tomorrow!"

"I liked your song." said Gregory.

Before the elf could reply, Wendy stepped in.

“Yeah, yeah enough of that." Wendy said and showed them her badge. "My name is Officer Wendy Cook of the Las Vegas PD. I’d like to see your license to have this carnival here please.”

“Oh...of course ma’am.” the gnome said. “my...fellow employee will get it for you right away.”

He winked at one and he left.

“Cool theme park sir!” Gregory said.

“Thank you.” the gnome said. “This is our...gnome world. We act as gnomes for the audience."

"Why were you singing that song?" Wendy asked.

"We were rehearsing for the show right now when you two came. What are you doing here in the woods at this hour anyway?”

“Trying to find a kidnapper.” Wendy said. “This little boy here lost his parents and we have reason to believe the kidnapper might be in these woods. Did any of you notice anything suspicious?”

The gnomes looked nervously. “Umm.....”

“Anything you know will be helpful.” Wendy said.

“Do you have any backup?” the gnome said. “It might be dangerous going alone out here...”

“I do NOT NEED BACKUP!” Wendy cried. “Now please tell me what you know sir while we wait. It will be really helpful.”

"Ma'am, we wrote that song for a reason." the gnome said. "Working together works...."

"Bud, tell me or I'm arresting you!" Wendy said.

“Okay, we think that...” the head gnome started.

All of a sudden, the gnomes stopping dancing and all started running in fear.

“Where are they all going?” Gregory asked.

“I bet they never had a permit.” Wendy said. “I’d better call...”

All of a sudden an elf grabbed each of them and was pulling them towards one of their houses.

"Hey, what gives?!" Wendy demanded.

"Hurry! Get inside!" he cried trying to get them through their door...but they were both too big. All of a sudden, they both heard a laughing behind them.

They turned around to see an ugly old lady. She had yellowish skin, white hair a pointy nose and was dressed like a witch.

“Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh! Want to ride on my broom little boy?” she asked coercely to Gregory.

Before Gregory could answer, Wendy stepped in.

"No! Get out of character and please cooperate ma'am!"

"Alright, alright. I was just playing." the old lady said. "What do you two need?"

"I'm Officer Wendy Cook." Wendy said showing the lady her badge."I'd like to speak to whoever is in charge of this carnival. Wanna make sure they have a permit to do it in this forest.”

The old lady laughed. “Okay ma’am. I’ll take you to him."

"Thank you very much." said Wendy. "Come on Gregory."

“Are you the witch at this theme park?” Gregory asked her.

“Oh yes little boy!” she said smiling.

"This must be like a fairy tale carnival or something." Gregory said to Wendy. "Gnomes and now a witch."

"I guess so." said Wendy. "How much farther m'am?"

"Not much." said the lady.

“That’s some great makeup and costume you got there!” Gregory commented. “Who designed your costume?”

“Gregory, that is NOT why we are here! We are here to find the owner of this park! And if someone doesn’t take me there right now, I’m taking you ALL in!”

“Follow me ma’am.” the lady said.

They followed the hag for little while.

“while we’re on the way there, I’d like you to listen to MY song for the park!” she cackled.

“Oh no please..” Wendy groaned. She hated that working together song the midget employees did. It reminded her of something she hated and it was the most annoying song she heard in her life!

“I wanna hear!” Gregory said.

Wendy nodded in annoyed consent.

All of a sudden music started playing like out of nowhere! Wendy and Gregory but just assumed that she hit a button which igniated the parks sound poles.

“which witch can you trust?
Which should you believe?
One whose laughter’s dry as old dust?
Also whose just about to deceive?”

Neither Wendy nor Gregory noticed the horrified looks on the gnomes faces as they followed the old lady. Gregory looked like he was loving this song, and Wendy looked like she thought it was better than the previous one.

“Witches have their way
of making you obey, so:
Stay away from them!
And just say to them:
Witch, witch go away!
Promises they make
Are promises they break
Sweets and goodies piled to the sky
Might make you cry
with joy! But then:
Maybe you should hear:

Remember this my dear:
Stay away from them!
And just say to them:
Witch, witch go away!”

“Here we are lady.” the old hag said smiling.

Wendy and Gregory gasped. It looked like a house made of candy! The roof was made of pies with an ice cream roofed watch tower! There were candy cane support beams for the walls and birthday candles on the roof.

“Wow! A candy house!” Gregory cried running to it.

“Gregory wait!” Wendy cried chaisng after him. “We don’t know where those came from!”

Gregory started helping himself to some of the loose sweets.

"Wendy try these! They're great!" Gregory cried.

"Is that made of real candy?" Wendy asked.

The lady nodded.

"Good Lord, you must have enormous budgets for these carnivals!" Wendy said.

The old lady smiled at Wendy. "We sure do." She then looked at Gregory

“Sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s what little children are made of!” the old lady said grinning.

"Yes, and also cocaine." Wendy said. "That's what I think sometimes. But where is the owner?"

“Through this door.” the lady said opening it. "It's where his office is.

“Follow me Gregory.” Wendy said. He did.

Wendy pulled her gun out as Gregory stay by her side as they entered.

"It was real dim...they couldn't see much.

Then the lady started laughing.

“Sugar and spice, bah!” she said. And she suddenly pushed them so hard, they both went tumbling all the way across the floor to the other end of the room! They looked around. The inside of the house looked less than nice. There were cages with animals in them!

The lady walked up to them grinning.

"Ma'am, are you aware you just pushed an officer of the law?" Wendy snapped.

Before the lady could reply, a little boy walked up to her.

“I finished all my chores.” he said.

“Good boy.” she said smiling. “Your gruel is waiting for you.”

“Thank you miss.” he said gratefully and left.

“Ma’am, what are you doing?” Wendy demanded.

“Business.” she said.

“Who was that boy?!” Wendy yelled. “Tell me right now!”

The old lady just cackled.

Gregory gasped. “Wendy, that’s the cackle I heard in my house last night!”

“Smart boy!” the lady said. “I AM the one who kidnapped your parents!”

“Okay ma’am, you’re coming downtown with me!” Wendy said pulling out her gun. “Put your hands behind your back and I shall read your rights!”

The old lady just laughed harder. “You don’t get it do you? Don’t you know what I do with the people I kidnap?”

“I do not, but we’ll get that out of you during interrogating.” Wendy said. “Now hands up!”

But the old lady did nothing of the sort. She just smiled and pointed to a lizard cage.

“Lizards!” she cried.

“What?” Wendy asked confused.

“Rats!” she cried pointing to a rat cage.

“Spiders!”

“Bats!”

“That’s what I make of all those I hate!" She cried and then turned to Gregory. "Especially little brats!”

“Ma’am, I’m giving you just ten seconds to put your hands up, or I’m firing!” she cried.

“You still don’t understand you worthless little bitch?” she laughed.

“Ma’am, I am losing patience!” Wendy roared. “TEN!”

“You are just so stupid...you see...”

“NINE!” Wendy cried.

The lady sighed and then snapped her fingers. All of a sudden, Wendy’s gun turned into a banana!

‘What the hell!?” Wendy screamed dropping it.

“I really am a WITCH!” she laughed. “I kidnap all those I hold a grudge against and turn them into animals which I keep here!”

Gregory looked frightened.

“But if you wanna see your mommy and daddy, they’re right there!” the witch laughed pointing to two black cats. They were meowing and trying to get free.

“Mom! Dad!” Gregory cried.

They both looked at him and meowed as if to say ”RUN! RUN!”

“Oh, I couldn’t let them destroy my forest! So I had to kidnap them! Took them and turned them into black cats!”

Gregory looked horrified

“Well, why don’t you join them eh?” she said sadistically and grabbed him.

"WENDY HELP!" Gregory cried.

Wendy tried to help him, but the witch snapped her fingers and suddenly several vines grew out of the ground. They tied Wendy down and made her immobile! She tried to break free but they were too strong!

The witch then took Gregory to a shelf full of potions. She took a black vile.

“Loathsome little snider, I’ll change you into a spider!” she laughed but before she could pour it on him, Wendy threw a rock knocking the potion and Gregory out of her hands.

She chased the boy, but suddenly got her foot caught in a crack in the floor. While she struggled to break loose, Gregory found a knife and cut Wendy loose!

Thanks Gregory!" Wendy said. "Now come on, let's get out of here!"

"What about my parents?!" Gregory cried.

"We're gonna go get help!" Wendy cried.

Gregory looked at his parents. They both nodded for him to go.

Gregory and Wendy ran for the door...but it wouldn't budge!

"Sorry, the door only opens for me!" The witch laughed as she struggled some more.

"Hey, here's a window!" Gregory cried. They both ran..but it was too small for Wendy!

“Save yourself Gregory!” Wendy cried.

"What about you?!" Gregory asked.

"I'll be fine sweetie!" Wendy said knowing that was probably not true. "Just you go!"

“I...I’ll get help!” he screamed running.

The witch then broke free and stormed towards Wendy. She snapped her fingers and the vines trapped her again

“Do you know what I do with police officers who come to investigate my kidnappings?” she asked.

Wendy shook her head terrified. She had no weapons anymore and the witch was much stronger than her! Maybe she should have listened to the chief after all!

“I turn them into little children who I have do all my work!” she grinned.

You mean...that little boy...” she started.

“Was a police officer yes!” she grinned. “I’ve got Thirteen others too! Soon to be fourteen! You rookies are all rednecks! Always think you can do everything alone! You never learn!”

As the witch headed for her potions shelf, Gregory's parents started clawing at her. She headed over to a cauldron full of a boiling green liquid and took a ladle full.

“I’ll change you into stone!” she roared and threw it at the cats. They were both petrified.

Wendy watched sadly. She failed to save Gregory’s parents.

The witch then took another black vial out. Then she gracefully strolled towards the bound Wendy.

“Wretched police woman swine! I change you into a girl of nine!” she yelled and poured the vile all over Wendy!

Wendy then began shrinking. He breasts disentegrated, her face rounded and her cheeks turned more rosie. Her clothes began changing too: her police uniform changed into medieval servant girl rags!

Wendy gasped! She was now Gregory’s age!”

“I...I...” she started.

“Come along little Wendy.” the witch said and grabbed her by the arm, leading her to a bare bedroom upstairs with candy cane bars on the Window.

"here's your cell." the witch said. "You'l lbe staying in here whenever you have no chores to do, which is very rare. You'll be fed one bowl of gruel per day when the chores are all done and then its prison time! And don't be difficult either, because than I will be difficult for you, and you will not like that! Trust me! Understood?!"

Wendy did not say anything.

"UNDERSTOOD?!" the witch demanded.

"Yes ma'am." Wendy said terrified.

With that, the wicked witch shut the door and locked it tight. Wendy looked at the window and shook the bars. They didn't even budge. Wendy then laid on her new bed...and started to cry.

Well Gregory was finally out of the woods (get it?) and he ran for the station.

“Officers! Officers!” he cried running in.

Jerry noticed him.

“What can we do for you son?” Jerry asked.

"JErry, it's me Gregory!" he screamed.

"Do I...know you?" he asked.

"Of course! I was here only an hour ago!" he screamed. "You guys asked me questions about my parents and..."

"What's he talking about?" Steve asked.

"I have no idea." said Jerry.

"What's going on here boys?" Chief Pool asked them.

“Chief Pool, Wendy’s in trouble!” Gregory cried. “The witch got here!”

The chief smiled. “Son, you just had a bad dream. Your friend Wendy is fine I bet.”

“I mean Wendy the officer who works here!” Gregory said.

“I think you’re mistaken son.” Chief Pool said. “We don't have any officer named Wendy in this department. Our only female officer is Alice.”

"Y..yes you do!" Gregory cried. "Her photo's on the wall!"

Chief Pool sighed. "Steve, could you please show this boy?"

"Come on son." said Steve. Steve took Gregory to the police photo wall...but Wendy's photo wasn't there anymore! Her station was also empty too!

Gregory looked shocked! “But...but...”

“Do you want one of my officers to take you home son?” he asked.

“N...no...” I’ll be fine.” he said and left. What was going on? Did they all get amnesia or something?

"Maybe if I show them proof of Wendy's existence, they'll listen." he thought and he decided to go to her house and find some metals or certificates to show them. When he arrived there, he bolted inside and was in such a rush he didn't notice the toilet paper from her house was gone. But when he reached the living room, he saw a man and woman sitting there watching television. They gasped upon seeig him.

"Hey, what are you doing here kid?!" the man demanded.

"What are YOU doing in here?" Gregory demanded. "This is Wendy Cook's house!"

"Um...no son, this is our house." the woman said looking weirded out. "We've lived here fifteen years now."

Gregory looked around. All of Wendy's police medals, certificates and criminal busting photos were gone! There were instead photos of the couple!

"But...but...."

"Look at this son." the woman said and she showed him a picture of the couple when they first moved in.

"And look at this!" the man said handing him a package. Gregory's eyes widened. It was addressed to them at the exact address!

"See? This is our house, not your friend Wendy's.  Now please leave or we're calling the police." the woman said.

When Gregory left, he checked the note in his pocket with Wendy's number that she had given him...the note was blank now! What the hell was going on?! It was like Wendy never existed! Well, if that was the case, it looked like he'd have to save Wendy and his parents on his own...no, he needed some help. It would take teamwork to rescue them and stop the witch. But who?

He thought and thought...then he remembered the gnomes he and Wendy both encountered before the witch lured them! He raced back to the woods!

“We can’t help you Gregory.” a gnome said. “That witch is too powerful!”

“You have to!” Gregory cried. “She’s got Wendy and my parents! I went back to the police station, but none of them had any clue who Wendy was! And when I went to her house, there was a couple there who claimed they lived there always!”

"That's because the witch has unpersoned Wendy." said a gnome.

"Un..unpersoned?" asked Gregory.

"Yes. Every time she kidnaps somebody, she erases everyone's knowledge and all evidence of their existence so nobody goes looking for them."

"Well then you guys are my only hope!" Gregory said.

“But...she’s so much more powerful than us!” a gnome cried.

“Come on guys! What happened to always work together?!”

“I see the hypocrisy.” and elf said. “Okay, we’ll attack tomorrow!"

"That was easy." Gregory thought.

The next day,  the witch was working Wendy like crazy. From sweeping the floor, to doing the dishes, to feeding the transformed animals, to scrubbing the potion beakers, fetching water for her, and even crying for her to enjoy!

While the witch was making a new potion, Wendy approached her, dirty and exhausted.

"I...I finished all my chores." Wendy said. "May I please have something to eat now ma'am?"

"First go clean the oven.” the witch roared

“Huh?” Wendy asked.

“Get in the oven!” she yelled.

Wendy then got an idea!

“I don’t know how.” Wendy said.

“Of course you do! Just jump in!” the witch yelled.

“Show me how.” Wendy said.

"God, the brain regression must be working too well for you." said the witch. "Alright watch."

The witch was about to but then she stopped.

“Wait a minute! You were gonna push me in! Just for that, I’m gonna teach you a lesson.

Wendy was horrified to see the plan was going awry.

“Spoiled little brat, I’ll change you into a rat!” the witch cried and was just about the pour the potion on Wendy when an arrow shot it out of her hand.

The witch angrily threw Wendy into an underground cellar and went out to see who did that.

A gnome outside gave the witch the middle finger.

She growled and ran after him trying to smack him with her broom.

but two gnomes laid out a vine for her and tripped her.

Meanwhile Gregory rushed into the candy house once the witch was distracted.

“Wendy?! Where are you?!” he called out for her.

The animals all pointed to the cellar.

Gregory tried to open it.

“It...it’s too heavy!” Gregory cried. “I need help!”

He then let all the animals out of their cages and they helped him pull it open.

Wendy climbed out.

“Gregory!” she cried.

“Who are you?” Gregory asked.

“It’s me Wendy!” she said. “The witch turned me into a kid!"

Gregory stared in shock

"Did you bring the police with you?" Wendy asked.

"Wendy, something weird's happened!" cried Gregory. "I went to the police station to get help, but no one there had any idea who you were! Your picture was also no longer on the wall! So then I went to your house to find proof for them, but there was this couple there who said they'dl ived their eight years, and all your medals and police stuff was gone! They even showed me a package that was addressed to them at YOUR address! IT was like...you never existed! The gnomes said that...she erases all evidence of the existence of who she kidnaps."

Meanwhile, the elves were keeping the witch perfectly busy by shooting arrows at her. She tried flying off on her broomstick, but the gnomes followed her on geese and continued firing. When the arrows weren’t having much effect, they started using PUMPKINS.

“The witch made an antidote.” Wendy said. “It’s over there.”

“Let’s get my parents back to normal first.” Gregory said.

They went and poured it on the two stonified cats and returned them to normal.

“Mom! Dad!” Gregory cried running to them.

“Gregory!” the cried hugging him. “You saved us!”

“And he saved me.” Wendy said.

“Come on son, let’s get the animals into that big cage and change them all back!” His father said.

They rounded them all up and did so.

Soon all the animals were restored to normal and were all cheering! They were all just random people.

“Come on, let’s get out of here!” one of them cried.

“No.” Gregory said. “We’ve got to stop that witch once and for all.”

“How?” Wendy asked.

Gregory’s parents stared at the stonifying potion.

The elves were trying to get the witch down by throwing pies in her face.

“throw! Throw!” the head gnome said from down below.

He then saw Gregory.

“Gregory, it’s not working!” he cried. “We’ve tried everything but we just can’t get her down!”

“We have a plan.” Gregory said. “Do you have a lasso?”

“We can make one out of this vine.” the head gnome said.

“Good. Use the lasso and pull her broom away! We’ll take care of the rest!” Gregory said.

The gnome nodded and headed off.

“Okay, back into the house everyone!” Gregory cried.

“Son, you have great leadership skills.” his mother said. “You should have been captain of the soccer team!”

Gregory smiled.

“You really do Gregory.” Wendy said. “You may not be a police officer like me, but you’re a much better organizer!”

“Okay everyone, let’s get this cauldron outside!” Gregory’s father cried.

Everyone lifted the cauldron out and started to carry it out the door.

"It's not boiling anymore." said Wendy.

"OH no." said JAck. "It's out of power...wait a minute! The antidote can recharge it!"

"But there's only a little left!" cried Gregory.

"So?" Jack asked.

"How will Wendy become a grown up again?" he asked. "And you guys as well?"

"Gregory." said Wendy. "I'm willing to sacrifice that to stop the witch."

"But Wendy..." Gregory started.

"Chief Pool was right." said Wendy. "Being brave doesn't mean being reckless. Being brave means making doing the right thing in hard situations...pour it in Gregory."

The other kids nodded. They'd sacrifice it too.

Gregory poured the remainder of the antidote in and it started boiling again

“Okay, you gnomes have caused me enough trouble!” the witch yelled. “Time to get angry!”

But a gnome lassoed for the witch’s broom and got it away from her causing her to tumble down!

The group put the cauldron right down below the tumbling witch and she landed right into the pot! She climbed out of the cauldron covered from head to toe in the sticky green stuff...which was starting to turn red as it took effect. She started walking slowly unable to see where she was going and she started moving slower and slower...until finally, the potion took it's final effect and she was just a witch shaped inanimate rock!

Everyone cheered and started dancing around her.

“We did it! We did it!” they all cried.

Gregory’s parents smiled at their boy.

“I’m sorry for how I acted earlier...” Gregory said to them.

“You’ve grownup a lot in 36 hours son.” his father said. “We’re proud of you.”

"So I am." said Wendy.

"But, now you're stuck as a kid forever Wendy!" Gregory cried.

"No I'm not!" Wendy said. "I'll become a grownup again the old fashioned way. One year at a time."

"What you did was really selfless Wendy." Mr. McCoy said. "I wish we could repay you somehow."

Mrs. McCoy smiled. "I think I know a way: she needs a home now that she's a child again...would you like to come live us with Wendy?"

"Beats an orphanage." said Wendy smiling.

“Is that okay with you dear?” Gregory’s mom asked his father.

“Of course it is!” his dad said.

Wendy and Gregory cheered.

“We’ll go get you legally adopted soon Wendy.” Gregory’s father said. “As for the rest of the kids, we’ll take them to the orphanage.”

"So..what do we do with this rock?" Gregory asked (it wasn't a statue per se, it was more like a rock with witch like features).

“You know dear, I think this rock will be perfect for that new park we’re building!” she said. “We can call it “The Witch Rock!”

“I like it!” Gregory’s dad said.

Wendy smiled at the gnomes. “Now I get your song. Thank you.”

The gnomes nodded.

So everyone soon went home.

“Wendy, you and Gregory will have to share a room till we get one made for you.” Gregory’s mom said.

“That’s fine Mrs. McCoy.” she said smiling.

“Call my mom sweetie.” she said. “you’re my daughter now!”

“Okay....mom.” Wendy said smiling.

"Tomorrow I'm tkaing you shopping for some girl clothes. Those rags you're wearing have go to go." she said.

Gregory and Wendy both went upstairs.

“Nice room Gregory!” Wendy commented.

“Thanks!” Gregory said smiling. “You can have my bed Wendy. I’ll get a cot.”

“Gregory...thank you for everything.” Wendy said. “You taught me how important working together is! And how being tough doesn’t always mean you’ll get the job done alone! That's one thing I haven't forgotten!”

"What do you mean?" Gregory asked confused.

"I'm starting to lose my adult knowledge." Wendy admitted. "I don't know how to drive anymore, I've lost most of my police education, and my academic skills are starting to regress...I can only remember the one times tables now!"

"I'm really sorry that this happened to you Wendy." Gregory said.

"It was my own fault." said Wendy. "I was extremely arrogant and foolhardy for trying to go there alone..and now I've learned an important life lesson that I'll use when I become a cop again..but for now my mission is to be a good adoptive sister to my best friend."

Gregory and Wendy both hugged.

A week later, the adoption agency granted Gregory's parents custody of Wendy and became Gregory's adoptive sister and best friend.

"You nervous about your first day of school Wendy?" Gregory's mother asked dropping the kids off.

I'm sure it'll be great." Wendy said. "If survived it once, and can do it again!"

"Class, this is our new student, Wendy Cook." the teacher said. "Wendy, take a seat next to the window there."

"Yes Mr. Richardson." Wendy said and sat at her desk. She looked out the window and saw a police car..and could see Jerry in it faintly.

"Go get em Jerry." Wendy said smiling and turned to listen to the days math lesson.

One day, Wendy, Gregory and a group of kids were riding bikes, when Wendy noticed Jerry giving a ticket.

“Hello officer.” she said seeing is he would recognize her.

“Hello little girl.” Jerry said. “Be good now.”

Wendy shrugged at Gregory and they went on.

33 YEARS LATER 2015

“Kendall, when can I have a turn with the wii?!” Steve McCoy asked his sister.

“In ten minutes like we agreed.” Kendell said.

“It’s been way over ten minutes!” Steve cried. “I’m calling mom and dad!”

And he got out his iphone.

“Officer Gregory McCoy here.” their dad answered.

“Daddy, Kendell’s hogging the wii!” Steve protested.

“Son, did you try working it out nicely?” he asked.

“Aw that’s for babies!” Steve said.

“Son, working together is NEVER for babies!” Gregory said smiling. “It is a lifesaver sometimes!”

“that’s what you and mom always say!” Steve said. “It’s 2015 dad, try to get in the times!”

“Try it out.” Gregory said smiling. “See what happens.”

Steve shrugged and hung up.

“Was that the kids?” Officer Gregory’s wife Wendy asked him.

“Yup, still don’t wanna work things out.” Gregory said.

“Well, teaching them the lesson we learned 33 years ago won’t be easy.” Wendy said. “But they’ll learn!”

“They sure will.” Gregory said as they stared the Witch Rock in the park Gregory’s parents built. It was now covered with birds and plants.

Just then, Gregory got a call on his walkie talkie.

“Wendy, we got a break in over at the old Miller place!” Gregory cried. “Team wants us to me them there now!”

“Let’s go!” Wendy cried jumping into action and they drove off to work as a team.

Female chorus:
And so ends our story, as all stories should:
They lived happily ever after! The cop babes in the woods!
Yes Wendy and the other kidified cop babes in the woods!
And Gregory as well! The cop babes in the woods!
And hopefully 80s police force! The cop babes in the WOOOOOODDDSSS!
This is an age regression story told as a cross between the show "Cops" and the 1932 disney short "Babes in the Woods (mainly the version from the show Belle: sing me a story. I wrote it because I don't know if you ever saw the show as a kid, but it featured a live action Belle reading children poorly dubbed versions of Disney shorts with totally different song. Anyway, the one for 'Babes in the woods' was "Working together." I felt that the short had so little do with it and I decided to rework it as a cop story with the message better enforced. Do comment

What is this, The Muppet Christmas Carol, where every single thing deserves to have its own song?

Oh wait, this is PG-13.
